Rok Smoka / Year of the Dragon

Jutro o polnocy zaczyna sie Nowy Rok Chinski.
To wytwor wesolej wyobrazni, ktory zle interpretuje bogata chinska tradycje i zwyczaje.
Slyna z ciezkiej pracy i oszczednosci.
Dragon fruit so popular in this part of the World
Ten Nowy Rok 2012 jest rokiem smoka. Kiedy mowimy „smok” zapewne myslimy o smoku wawelskim lub innych przerazających osobnikach ziejących ogniem i siejacych spustoszenie. W kulturze Zachodu smok symbolizuje wszystkie najgorsze cechy moralne.
Mialy przynosic ludziom szczescie.

A w dzien Nowego Roku je sie chinski "tikoy" i zyczy sie: "Kung hei fat choi!"
Szczesliwego Nowego Roku Smoka!
Tomorrow night we will celebrate the New Year in the Chinese Callendar.
The Chinese Lunar New Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating from 2600 BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the zodiac. This calendar is based on exact astronomical observations of the longitude of the sun and the phases of the moon. It is divided into 12 months of 29 or 30 days. The calendar is adjusted to the length of the solar year by the addition of extra months at regular intervals. The years are arranged in to 12-year cycle that continuously repeats and to major cycles of 60 years. It explains why, the Chinese people put a special attention to the celebration of 60th birthday. For them, it is a time when the major circle of a person is completed. Usually, the Chinese New Year is celebrated at the second new moon after the winter solstice and falls between January 21 and February 19 on the Gregorian calendar.
The Chinese calendar names each of the twelve years after an animal. Legend has it that the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from earth. Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward he named a year after each one in the order of their arrival: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
A word of warning. I noticed many strange horoscopes and disastrous predictions placed in the chip newspapers and publications regarding this Chinese New Year. Mind you, it is just a fruit of eccentric and funny interpretations of Chinese wisdom that has no connection with the rich Chinese tradition. Tradition and wisdom that, from its origin, is positive and enthusiastic.
As a matter of fact, there are many Chinese in the Philippines. They are known here as hard working people and those who can save money. Most of the biggest business and shops belong to them. They celebrate this Chinese New Year very solemnly. For them it is a time to rest and relax, visit family and spend a few days with them. They pray to God for prosperity in their coming New Year and thank Him for all they have received and experienced in the past year.
This year we have a year of the Dragon. In the West, the Dragon is seen as a dangerous beast to be slain and defeated. The Dragon was likened to the devil as it was seen to signify the worst moral aspects of humanity. However, this could not be from the truth in the East. The Dragon is seen as the wise, strong, good protector. He is seen as representing royalty and prosperity. He symbolizes victory and success, independence, good spirit and positive energies. Whichever you would believe, it would only mean two things: every day of our lives is a constant struggle between evil and good. To acknowledge both is to be guided on the way we are suppose to go – righteousness.
In a Dragon year, events can seem magnified and everything feels more intense. Therefore, it is a challenge for us to have the courage and energy to be bold and take risks. This could be an excellent time to take that step towards marriage, start a family or embark on that business venture. A time to become a better person.
Happy New Year of the Dragon!
