Wczoraj Manny Pacqiao przegral walke na ringu z amerykaninem Timothy Bradley. Dzisiaj na calych Filipinach jest dzien refleksji i “zaloby” po tym co sie stalo. Wielu ludzi do tej pory nie moze uwierzyc, jak ten wspanialy bokser i idol wielu chlopcow, mogly przegrac na ringu. Pacqiao bowiem zdobyl wszystkie mozliwe tytuly jakie zawodowy piesciarz moze zdobyc i byl nie pokonanm przez siedem ostatnich lat. W jego osiegnieciach znajduje sie wiele tytulow, w tym szesc tytulow Mistrza Swiata w czterech roznych kategoriach wagowych. Nikt jeszcze nie osiagnal takiego wynku. Byl rowniez wybranym “Mistrzem Dekady” Nowego Millenium.

Manny jest skromnym i religijnym czlowiekiem. Pochodzi z malego miasteczka, General Santos, na poludniu Mindanao. Ma juz 36 lat i chcial zakonczyc swoja bogata kariere sportowa pare miesiecy temu. Wygral bowiem wszystko co chcial i zarobil fortune. Przy tym, zaangazowal sie w polityke. Nawet jego mama prosila go, aby skonczyl z walkami. Do tej “ostatniej” walki zostal namowiony przez swoich managerow i doradcow. Dla nich ciagle jest za malo. Po niej mial zakonczyc kariere. Niestety wczoraj przegral, i wyglada na to, ze bedzie walczyl nadal. Musi sie bowiem zrewanzowac za niefortunna porazke.

Dzisiaj rano dowiedzielismy sie, ze jego mama zaslabla podczas ogladania jego walki i zostala odwieziona do szpitala. Miejmy nadzieje, ze zarowno on, jak i mama, szybko wroca do pelnego zdrowia.

Mimo niedzielnej porazki, jestem przekonany, ze Manny Pacqiao nadal bedzie tutaj uwazany za Mistrza i zwyciezce. Nadal bedzie bohaterem narodowym dla wielu Filipinczykow . Legenda o nim bedzie zyla wiecznie.

Yesterday the boxer Manny Pacqiao lost to American Timothy Bradley in a fight. Today in the Philippines is the day of mourning and reflection on it. Many people still don’t believe that the absolute leader in box-ranking and idol for all Filipino boys – Pacqiao, could lose his fight. He was unbitten for 7 years and has got all kind of titles in boxing. He is the first eight-division world champion; won six world titles and he was the first to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. Finally, he was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s.

Manny is a simple and religious person. He comes from a tiny little town, General Santos, in the south of Mindanao. He is 36 and supposes to end his career a few months ago. He won all possible titles and gained a lot of money. He even involved himself in the politics. His mother advised him to stop fighting and he promised her to do so after this last fight. But he lost, and probably will have to face Bradley in November again as revenge. His mother collapsed and was taken to the hospital while watching his son’s fight yesterday. I hope Manny Pacqiao, likewise his mother, will get well soon.

Despise his defeat, there is no doubt, Manny Pacqiao will continue to be an inspiration and model of a success for many Filipinos. His image as a winner and a hero will last forever. His legend will never die.

Carabao

Karabao (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis) to typowe filipinskie zwierze. Jezeli podrozujesz przez wioski zapewne w wielu miejscach zauwazysz karabao.

Karabao (bawol wodny) powszechnie wykorzystywane jest tutaj do uprawy ziemi i transport na polach ryzowych lub w lesie. Gdy nie pracuje mozna je zobaczyc lezace w wodzie lud blocie. W ten sposob karabao odpoczywa, a zarazem chlodzi sie przed upalem i skwarem. Bloto, w ktorym czesto "kapie sie" karabao ochrania jego skore przed natretnymi owadami.

Karabao (kalabaw – nazwa lokalna) wywodzi sie od poczatkow z terenow pludniowej Azji. Jest roslinno-zerne i moze wazyc nawet 800 kg. Zyje do 20 lat. Z natury jest bardzo spokojne, i obok psa, uwazane jest tutaj za najlepszego przyjaciela czlowieka. Dzieci uwielbiaja sie z nim bawic i na nim jezdzic. To wspaniala zabawa.

 

The carabao (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis) is the national animal of the Philippines. It is a symbol of this country. If you travel through the countryside, you will certainly discover the carabao. 

The carabao (water buffalo) is still a very important draught-animal on the rice-fields. It is also used for pulling activities in the forest. Since the carabao has no sweat glands, it cools itself by lying in a waterhole or mud during the heat of the day. Mud, caked on to its body, also protects it from bothersome insects. Therefore, if not working, the water buffalo can be seen while it is resting, many times in a place of water and mud.

Carabaos (kalabaw – the local name) are indigenous to South Asia. The carabao eats grass and other vegetation, feeding mainly in the cool of the mornings and evenings. Adult carabao weighs seven to eight hundred kilograms and lives almost up to 20 years. Normally, they are silent and docile, but they will give a trembling snort if they are surprised. Local people see carabao, beside a dog, as a faithful partner in life. Often the kids have a fun while playing with this big animal.

Misja mlodziezowa / Youth Mission

Jak co roku, tak i w tym roku, odbyla sie misja mlodziezowa (DYM) w regionie Dansolihon. Tym razem mlodziez sercanska wybrala Ugyaban, Rest House i Mangalay, jako miejsca swojego pobytu i dzialania. Wzielo w niej udzial 35 mlodych ludzi. Po kilku tygodniach przygotowan, udali sie oni w dalekie gorzyste tereny, aby spedzic tam z miejscowymi ludzmi 10 dni. Tematem tegorocznej misji byly slowa sw Pawla: “Umocnieni w wierze” (Kol 2,7).

To co mlodzi sercanie mogli tam zaoferowac to jedynie modlitwa, spiew i entuziazm zycia. Poniewaz nie wielu przyjezdza w tamte odlegle tereny, mlodziez i ich misja zostala mile przyjeta przez miejscowych mieszkancow. Misja zakonczyla sie powodzeniem. Mlodzi misjonarze wrocili do Cagayan zadowoleni i pelni spelnienia. Patrzac na to przez pryzmat duchowy, mlodziez wiecej otrzymala niz dala.

Dehonianska misja mlodziezowa nie moglaby sie odbyc bez sponsorow i wolontariuszy, ktorzy pomagali mlodym nie tylko w sprawach materialnych. Szczegolne podziekowania dla Grace i Connie.

It is already a tradition, that Dehonian Youth Mission takes place in Dansolihon every year in May. This time it was held in three distant chapels (villages) in Ugyaban, Rest House and Mangalay. There were 35 participants, members of the Dehonian youth organization. They prepared themselves within a few weeks in order to go and to stay for 10 days with the local people in that mountainous area. The theme of this mission was: “Standing firm in the faith” (Col 2:7).

The young missionaries didn’t have much to offer during the mission except their prayer, singing and positive presence there. Because, there are not many visitors that go to that remote area, the young people were very welcomed and enthusiastically received by the local people. Mission was successful. The youth came back to Cagayan happy and fulfilled. Speaking about the mission from the spiritual point of view, the missionaries more received than gave…

Kurs angielskiego / English Course

Ks Jonny Klingler, razem z pania Jo, jest nauczycielem angielskiego podczas tegorocznego kursu wakacyjnego w naszym domu formacyjnym. Ks Jonny, byly radnym generalnym i prowincjal amerykanskiej prowincji, zostal przez nas zaproszony do Cagayan, aby uczyc angielskiego naszych nowych kandydatow. Na kursie w tym roku mamy 9 studentow (wietnamczykow i filipinczykow) ktorzy przygotowuja sie do egzaminu wstepnego na uniwersytet (Xavier University). Ten kurs to okazja dla nich, do podciagniecia sie w mowieniu i pisaniu, tak potrzebnym na zblizajacych sie studiach. Poza nauka w klasie, w czasie kursu jest tez czas na gre, rekreacje i wycieczki na miasto. Wyglada na to, ze chlopaki pracuja mocno i rzetelnie. Nie powinni miec wielkich problemow na egazminie i studiach. 

Ks Jonny, ktory jest czlowiekiem bardzo uprzejmym i prostym, stal sie dla nas nie tylko nauczycielem, ale rowniez dobrym przyjacielem. Chetnie dzieli sie z nami swoim doswiadczeniem i madroscia. Chcialbym, aby mogl zostac z name na dluzej. Takich wlasnie ludzi nam tu potrzeba do naszej misji.

Fr Jonny Klingler, beside ma’am Jo, is the main teacher for English summer course in our formation house this year. Fr Jonny, former general councilor and US provincial, was invited to Cagayan to help our students in English. We have 9 students (Vietnamese and Filipino) who are beginners and they need to get ready for the entrance exam at Xavier University. Summer course is the last chance for them to improve their skills in speaking and writing. Beside English classes, there is time for play and outing in the city during the course. The students are sincere and hard working. I am convinced, they will do well in their studies.

Fr Jonny, with his kind personality, became not just a teacher but very good friend to all of us. He shares with us his experiences and wisdom. How I wish, he stays with us for long time. We need such people in our mission.
