Fiesta in Cagayan 2013

Sierpień to miesiąc w którym mieszkańcy Cagayan de Oro są bardzo zajęci. W tym własnie miesiącu, co roku, przypada święto patrona miasta, Św. Augustyna. Z tej okazji organizowanych jest wiele imprez i uroczystości. Kulminacyjnym dniem jest 28 sierpień, ale atrakcje trwają cały tydzień.

Wszystko zaczyna się w katedrze, pod wezwaniem patrona miasta: Señor San Agustin, a kończy się na ulicy i w każdym możliwym miejscu na mieście. Największą atrakcją, przyciągającą wielu turystów do miasta w tych dniach, jest parada uliczna. Przez główny boulevard przetacza się wielki taniec, z zespołami tańczącymi tradycyjne kawałki, często rytualne, lokalnego plemienia higaonon. Jest to bardzo barwna prezentacja lokalnej kultury, tańca i śpiewów. Inną wspaniałą atrakcją jest tzw. kumbira (uczta) gdzie można zakosztować lokalnego jedzenia i tutejszych przysmaków. A poza tym, są wybory Miss Cagayan, różnego rodzaju targi i pokazy, koncerty lokalnych instrumentów (bębny i trąby) oraz parada na rzece tzw. Golden Float.

W mieście panuje wspaniała atmosfera zabawy i przygody. Każdy może znaleść coś atrakcyjnego i interesującego dla siebie. 

Viva Señor San Agustin!

August is a busy month for all Kagay-anons (people who live in Cagayan). It is also the perfect time to visit and explore the city because it is when the feast of St. Augustine, Cagayan de Oro’s patron saint, is celebrated. The proper feast occurs on August 28 but the celebrations last for a week.

Among the highlights of the occasion are the Higaonon Street Dancing (named after one of Cagayan de Oro’s native tribes), where locals in their ethnic garments rhythmically move across the boulevard and the Kumbira, where professional chefs and up and coming culinary apprentices compete and showcase their gastronomic flair. Other activities taking center stage are the Kagay-an Agro-Trade, Miss Kagay-an, drum and bugle exhibition and contest, several business conventions, variety of concerts by popular Filipino and foreign performers, and the Golden Float Parade. 

Since it is a festival in honor of city patron, Señor San Agustin, there are many activities and celebrations hold in the city Cathedral of St Augustine. Everywhere you feel and see special atmosphere and celebrating people. It’s a lot of fun.

Dzisiaj obchodzimy imieniny Augustyna. Sw. Augustyn jest patronem naszego miasta Cagayan de Oro. Dlatego w całym mieście mamy wielką fiestę. Sw. Augustyn, jako patron, był przyznany miastu przez Augustynów. Ten zakon przybył na Filipiny juz w 16 wieku i bardzo przyczynił się do rozwoju tutaj chrześcijaństwa. Zbudował ponad 300 miast i tyle samo kościołów. Augustyni dotarli do Cagayan, na Mindanao, dopiero w połowie 20 wieku. Od tego właśnie momentu nasze miasto i katedra noszą imię św. Augustyna. 

Dziś więc świętuje całe miasto i lokalny Kościół. Tradyacyjnie, to świętowanie potrwa przez cały tydzień i urozmaicone ono będzie wieloma atrakcjami, paradami ulicznymi, pokazami kultury i tańca. Wszystko to na cześć świętego Augustyna. Dla nikogo nie zabraknie też jedzenia, mimo, że wielu turystów i gapiów przyjechało tutaj na tę okazję. Każdy wiec znajdzie coś ciekawego dla siebie i nikt nie powinien być w tych dniach smutny. Nasi studenci też biorą aktywny udział w świętowaniu i zabawie na mieście. Są to niezapomniane chwile. 

Katedra św. Augustyna w Cagayan de Oro

Today in the calendar we remember St Augustine. It is a patron of Cagayan de Oro. Therefore, we celebrate it here very solemnly. This patron was given to our city by the Augustinians. It is a religious order founded on the rule of St Augustine. They arrived in the Philippines in 16^th century and built the foundation of the Catholic Church here. In fact, the Augustinians had founded over 300 towns and built over 300 churches in the Philippines. Eventually, they reached to Cagayan de Oro in the middle of 20^th century. It is since that time that St Augustine was chosen as a patron of the city and the Cathedral. 

 

So, it is a great fiesta for the entire city and the local Church at the same time. It will last for a week. During this holiday, there are many attractions, parades, celebrations and plenty of food everywhere. Everyone can find something interesting and exciting for himself. All habitants of Cagayan, not just the Catholics, enjoy the fiesta. Also our students are taking actively part in this celebration and have fun in honor of St Augustine. It is unforgettable experience.
