Wietnam: Kraj i Kosciol / Vietnam: Country and Church

(wielkosc zblizona do powierzchni Wloch). Sasiaduje z Chinami, Laosem i Kambodza, a od wschodu z Morzem Chinskim.

Legenda mowi, ze Wietnam powstal z milosnej uni lac Long Quan, Krola Morza i Au Co, Ksieznej Gor.
Wowczas temperature wzrasta do 35 stop. C.

Liczy juz 4000 lat. Poczatkow jej szukac trzeba w dawnych religiach i filozofiach wschodnich: Konfuncianizmie, Toaismie, Buddyzmie, religiach animistycznych i pra-dawnych chinskich wierzeniach.

Wietnam liczy juz 90 mln mieszkancow. 10% wszystkich to Chrzescijanie, w wiekszosci Katolicy.

Musza byc ostrozni w wyrazaniu swojej wiary publicznie.

Cambodia, flower of Vietnam
Vietnam as a country is shaped on the map like an extended “S.” It stretches the length of the Indochinese Peninsula and covers a surface area of 331,114 square km, making it roughly the size of Italy. China lies to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, and the South China Sea to the east.

Legend has it that Vietnam's origin lay in the harmonious union of lac Long Quan, King of the Sea, and Au Co, Princess of the Mountains. That’s why, topographically, Vietnam is a verdant tapestry of soaring mountains, fertile deltas, primeval forests inhabited by exotic fauna, sinuous rivers, mysterious caves, otherworldly rock formations, and heavenly waterfalls and beaches.

Vietnam's climate is as complex as its topography. Although the country lies entirely within the tropics, its diverse range of latitude, altitude, and weather patterns produces enormous climatic variation. North Vietnam has two basic seasons: a cold, humid winter from November to April, and a warm, wet summer for the remainder of the year. South Vietnam is generally warm, the hottest months being March through May, when temperature rises up to 35 degrees C.

The richness of Vietnam's origins is evident throughout its culture. Cultural life in Vietnam is the fruit of divert belief systems, including Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Christianity, popular Chinese beliefs, and ancient Vietnamese animism.

Today there are about 90 million people in Vietnam. Ten percent of these are Christians, mainly Catholics. Although in minority, the Church here, full of martyrs and saints, is firm and in growth. Despise of many years of difficult history, conflicts, wars and especially recent Communist system, the faith of the people remained strong. It is clearly visible in the local communities and healthy families, growing of religious vocations and beautiful churches built throughout the country that are full of people when there is mass or prayer there. Vietnam is the second largest Catholic country of Asia, just after the Philippines.

Despise visible changes and growing religious freedom in the country, the Christian people of Vietnam are still in “advent.” They must be careful in expression of their faith publicly. Government controls the number of ordinations to the priesthood, formation programs in the seminaries and building new churches. That’s why many of the candidates for religious or priestly life study in the Philippines. Then, they have to wait many years to be formally accepted by the government in their own country. A foreign priest cannot say a mass without permission from the local authorities. Yesterday, I met an old priest who spent 15 years in the prison for a reason that he is a priest.

The country, likewise the Christians here, need support and our prayer.
